The theme of the black dress found its origin in the film The Piano. The black dress has for me the ideal mix of tradition though designed in a contemporary way, it has become a favourite. I like working from a historical, ethnical or folkloric point of view, though bringing these sensibilites out in a new and modern way. The mussels in the jewellery also refer to a scene in The Piano pulling the piano out of the sea, which is covered with mussels and sea plants as wells as a reference to Belgian art.
